The Stockholm Convention
The Stockholm Convention is a treaty against Persistent Organic Pollutants. According to the Stockholm Convention's website, the treaty was created in May of 2001 following the growing knowledge of the 12 Persistent Organic Pollutant chemicals in the "Dirty Dozen." There are 152 countries that have signed the Stockholm Convention, and there are 172 countries that have implemented the Stockholm convention's regulations into their environment; because of the Stockholm convention, our environment has become a cleaner due to the regulations and limitations on the use of Persistent Organic Pollutants.
Clean Water Act (CWA)
Many of these Persistent Organic Pollutants have been a growing issue in contamination of water and aquatic life. According to the Environmental Protection Agency's website, this act was first established in the late 1940s and was referred to as the Federal Water Pollution Control Act. It wasnt strictly regulated and well known until the late 1970s when it changed it's name to the Clean Water Act. The Clean Water act makes the dumping of substance by industrial companies illegal unless otherwise granted or a permit was implimented by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Clean Air Act (CAA)
Several toxins enter into earths atmosphere on a daily basis. It is important that the United States and countries globally regulate the transmitting of substances into the air because humans and many other organisms requires air to breathe. Many of these chemicals can create disease and damage our systems if we are exposed to large amounts. The Environmental Protection Agency describes the Clean Air Act in great detail, stating that the Clean Air Act was created in the early 1970s with a main goal of regulation of industry pollution emission into the atmosphere. The act was created to implement National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) in each state so there would be a significant reduction of air pollution.

Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
As further explained by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Toxic Substance Control Act was created to grant the Environmental Protection Agency power to implement restrictions, testing of chemicals, and report unlawful acts under the Toxic Substances Control Act. The Envionmental Protection Agency also states that the Toxic Substance Control Act regulates the manufactoring and production, the shiping, usage, and discarding of many chemicals.
Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA)
A vast majority of persistent organic pollution consists of pesticides so many of these chemicals are regulated under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, And Rodenticide Act. The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act requires all manufacturing and importation of any pesticide must be regulated under the Environmental Protection Agency, as stated in the Environmental Protection Agency's website. It must also be known that, if used, the pesticide will not cause any damage to any other plants or animals within the environment.
